November 22, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
Jason Ward's four-point night allowed him to extend his scoring streak to 10 games and pull into a tie for the AHL scoring lead (9+16=25 pts.), while providing Hamilton with enough offense to get past St. John's on Wednesday, 7-5. Ward's second goal of the game was part of a four-goal second period for the Bulldogs, who improved to 11-4-1-1 on the season with the win. Alexei Ponikarovsky scored twice for the Maple Leafs, who have just one win in their last 11 outings (1-8-2-0). Tonight's rematch (7:00 ET) is expected to sell out the lower bowl at Copps Coliseum.

LOOKING AHEAD:
Grand Rapids tries to extend an 11-game unbeaten streak (8-0-3-0) with a pair of home games, beginning tonight against San Antonio (7:30 ET, 6:30 CT). The Griffins have allowed 19 goals during the streak, which has included five one-goal victories. The visiting Rampage are unbeaten in their last five outings, including four consecutive ties entering the weekend. A meeting between Griffins defenseman Ed Campbell and his brother Jim Campbell will have to wait; the Rampage forward has missed the last nine games due to injury.
The view from the top has been good for the Norfolk Admirals, who enter tonight's game against Binghamton (7:30 ET) with the league's best record at 13-2-1-2. The Admirals roster boasts the AHL's co-scoring leader in Mike Peluso (25 points), the co-victories leader in Michael Leighton (seven) and the GAA leader in Craig Andersson (1.86). The Senators have two wins in their last 11 games and are 3-6-2-1 since losing Jason Spezza to Ottawa. Former AHL All-Star defenseman Josef Boumedienne leads the B-Sens with 11 assists, 12 points and a plus-9 rating.
Hartford and Springfield collide in a home-and-home series as the East Division standings get a little tighter. Entering the weekend, Marty McSorley's Falcons have won three in a row while the rest of the East is on a collective 0-9-3-2 skid. Hartford returns home Saturday (7:05 ET) after a winless four-game road trip to Utah and Texas that ended with a 4-3 overtime loss in Houston on Thursday. The Falcons enter Sunday's contest (4:05 ET) with an all-time record of 178-114-38 (.597) at the Springfield Civic Center, including 12-11-4 against the Wolf Pack. Former teammates Rob Murray and Ken Gernander are the AHL's active leaders in games played with 1,638 contests between them.
