November 19, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Los Angeles Aftershock News Release
Dion Bailey may be best known for Slam Ball, but Friday Night, Bailey was too much for the Bellingham Slam as he led the Los Angeles Aftershock to a 119-114 win at home. Bailey, from Utah State, had 23 points and 6 rebounds (all offensive) off the Aftershock bench, and along with Corey Williams, Jamar Cramer and Scott Freymond, led the Aftershock comeback.
Kevin Woodberry got the Slam off to a hot start with 8 first quarter points to go with 7 from Caleb Gervin. Ramell Lloyd had 10 points early, but it was Corey Williams' 10 points off the bench that allowed the game to stay close. Bellingham led after one quarter, 34-30.
Bailey then came off the LA bench to ignite the Aftershock with 15 points in the second quarter. Nick Sheppard added 8 points to almost off set the 3 three-pointers and 9 points by Woodberry. The Slam led at the half, 61-60.
The second half began with Craig Roosendaal and Mike Bush combining for 13 points as Bellingham raced to a 10 point lead early in the third. Jason Braxton ignited the Los Angeles comeback with 9 points to go along with Olden Polynice, Jamar Cramer and Corey Williams, who all scored 6 points each. The Aftershock took the lead at 79-77 after trailing most of the game, and led 95-86 heading into the final period.
Gervin had 9 points in the fourth to cut the Aftershock deficit, and Roosendaal gave Bellingham the lead late. But it was Scot Freymond's 12 points in the period along with big free throws by Sheppard and Bailey that locked the game away for the Aftershock. Bailey finished with 23 points, while Lloyd added 17. Williams and Sheppard both added 16 while Braxton and Freymond added 15 and 12 points respectively. Gervin led the Slam with 24, while Roosendaal and Woodberry both added 19 for Bellingham. The same two teams will face off Saturday Night at 7pm.
