After Running Out Of Pitchers, Dirt Dawgs Lose To Raging Tide

June 24, 2012 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Old Orchard Beach News Release

Dirt Dawg starting pitcher Mike Murphy began the game well, allowing two runs in the first two innings. But after a long third inning, and a long 2/3rds of a fourth inning, he had to leave the game due to the leagues pitch count rule. To relieve him, the Dirt Dawgs pitched their closer Brian Menduke. Menduke put forth a valiant effort, going 2.1 innings in the middle of the game, something a closer rarely does, and didn't allow a single run. But in doing so he threw 45 pitches, which means the Dirt Dawgs will be without their closer for a few games due to league pitch count rules. Following Menduke the Dirt Dawgs had to turn to their starting right fielder, John Lefeber, because none of their pitchers were eligible to pitch due again to league pitch count rules. For Lefeber, who is listed on the roster as an outfielder, this was his fifth appearance of the season. Lefeber pitched 2 innings, and allowed 1 run.

The final score of the game was 10-0, as the Dirt Dawgs only recorded three hits. Offense aside, lack of pitching depth hindered the team in tonight's game.
