May 12, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Force rookie OS TROY BERGERON (6-2, 180, Middle Tennessee State) and WR/LB DEREK LEE (6-5, 215, Tennessee Tech) hope to make it a record-setting evening when the Force (10-4) host the Dallas Desperados (7-6-1) this Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on FSN South, FSN Southwest, FSN Chicago, FSN North, Sun Sports and Comcast. Lee leads all rookies and is tied at No. 8 in the League with 97 receptions. Lee needs nine receptions over the next two games to break the record for most receptions by a rookie (105). Bergeron, who ranks No. 9 in the League in receiving yards (1,189), is 138 yards away from breaking the record for most receiving yards for a rookie (1,335). The Force, who already clinched the Southern Division, can secure home-field advantage through out the playoffs with a win and a New York loss.

THE TEAM THEME: San Jose Kicker DAN FRANTZ (6-1, 200, Portland State) has converted a League-high 99-of-118 PATS this season, putting him with in reach of breaking the single season record of PATs (110) and PAT attempts (126). The SaberCats, who lead the League in touchdowns (123), need to score only 12 touchdowns in their final two games to give Frantz the opportunity to break the record. The SaberCats are 15 touchdowns away from breaking the single-season record for most touchdowns scored by a team (137). The chase for the touchdown and PAT records have put the SaberCats in within 153 points of becoming the first team in the AFL to score 1,000 points in a season. San Jose (8-6) looks to rack up the touchdowns as they take on the Arizona Rattlers (5-9) this Saturday at 10 pm. ET on NBC – San Jose and AFLNet (www.arenafootball.com).

AND HE CAN DO IT AGAIN: In 2003, while with the Detroit Drive, New Orleans QB ANDY KELLY (6-3, 220, Tennessee) set the single-season records for attempts (654) and completions (392). Kelly broke the record for completions in a season (409) last week and needs only 39 more pass attempts to break record for most attempts in a season (654). The former Volunteer is slated to start his 133nd consecutive regular-season game when the VooDoo (8-6) host the Austin Wranglers (6-9) this Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on Cox Sports and AFLNet. The streak is the all-time record for consecutive starts by a quarterback. The next closest active streak is held by Philadelphia QB TONY GRAZIANI (6-3, 215 University of Oregon), who has started 60 straight games dating back to the start of the 2002 season with Los Angeles.

HOME SWEET HOME: Since the League extended its regular-season schedule from 14 games to 16 prior to the start of the 2003 season, no team has gone undefeated at home. Entering Week 16, Georgia and Tampa Bay are the only two teams to remain undefeated at home. This week, the Force (10-4) host Dallas (7-6-1) and the Storm (8-6) host the Eastern Division leading New York Dragons (9-5) in their final home games of the season.
