This weekend marks the start of the Arena Football League's 21st season. This year the AFL struck an exclusive national agreement with ESPN, came out with the second edition of EA Sport's Arena Football video game (af2 teams included) and now has an exhibit dedicated strictly to the AFL in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It has been an off-season full of excitement, and with the regular season starting this weekend, the play on the field will be just as great.

The AFL era on ESPN kicks off this Sunday with two marquee matchups on ABC. The Chicago Rush will travel to Kansas City and take on the Brigade (Sunday at 12:30 pm ET) and the Dallas Desperados will play the New York Dragons (Sunday at 12:30 pm ET). The Green Bay Blizzard will have four former players playing in these nationally televised games on ABC. Robert Boss (OL/DL) will start in his first game in the AFL and Joe Peters (OL/DL) will be on the field for the defending ArenaBowl Champion Chicago Rush and Peter Lazare (FB/LB) and Luke Leverson (WR/DB) will play for the Dallas Desperados.

On Saturday, March 3rd the Georgia Force will play the Arizona Rattlers. The Blizzard has five former players on the Georgia Force roster. Starting Force QB Chris Greisen played for the Blizzard in 2004. His backup, James MacPherson, played for the Blizzard last season and lead the team to an East Division and American Conference Championship. Also on that 2006 Championship team is David Crocker (DB) who will start for the Force this weekend, and Brent Holmes (WR). Matt Huebner (FB) played for the Blizzard in 2005 and is going into his second season in the AFL.

The Orlando Predators will also have a former Blizzard player starting this weekend as a wide side defensive back. Ryan Bowers played for the Blizzard in 2005, and lead the team in interceptions with ten and made First-team All-Conference honors will be starting for the Predators at cornerback. Brett Huyser (OL/DL) is on the Colorado Crush roster for the 2007 season. Huyser was named to the All-af2 team in 2006.

The Green Bay Blizzard leads the af2 in player signings to an AFL roster this season. The Blizzard coaching staff prides itself in moving guys up to the AFL. As the AFL kicks off its 21st season, the af2 season is also just around the corner. Training camp starts one week from Sunday. The team is looking to build on the championship season from last year by making a return trip to ArenaCup8.
