AFL names players of the week

NEW YORK – Philadelphia Soul wide receiver/linebacker SEAN SCOTT, New Orleans VooDoo quarterback ANDY KELLY and Tampa Bay Storm defensive specialist JONATHAN ORDWAY have been named U.S. Army Ironman, Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 2 of the 2005 season.
U.S. ARMY IRONMAN: Scott (6-2, 200, Millersville) led the Philadelphia Soul (1-1) in a losing effort in last weekÂ’s 51-41 loss to the Chicago Rush (1-1) on Sunday. The former Marauder recorded eight receptions for 81 yards and five touchdowns, including 1-, 2-, 4-, 11- and 17-yard scoring strikes from 2004 All-Arena QB TONY GRAZIANI. Scott added three solo tackles and two assists on defense. This marks the second straight week that the second-year veteran has earned an AFL weekly honor.
OFFENSIVE: Kelly (6-3, 220, Tennessee), who is in his 12th AFL season, earned Offensive Player of the Week honors by leading the New Orleans VooDoo (1-1) to a 59-34 victory over his former team, the Nashville Kats (1-1), on Friday. Kelly completed 29-of-33 passes (87.9%) for 277 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions. The win was the VooDooÂ’s first of the season and improved the teamÂ’s record to 3-0 all time against Central Division foes. This marks the ninth time that the former Volunteer has earned an AFL weekly honor.
ADT DEFENSIVE: Ordway (5-11, 180, Boston College), who is in his second AFL season, helped lead the Tampa Bay Storm (2-0) to a 62-45 victory over the Austin Wranglers (0-2) in a Southern Division showdown on Sunday. Ordway recorded five solo tackles, one assist and two interceptions, including a 49-yard return for a touchdown. This marks the first time that the former Eagle has earned an AFL weekly honor.
U.S. Army Ironman of the Week candidates included: ChicagoÂ’s John Moyer, ColoradoÂ’s Kevin McKenzie, Los AngelesÂ’ Brian Sump, New OrleansÂ’ Thabiti Davis, New YorkÂ’s Mike Horacek, OrlandoÂ’s Cory Fleming, San JoseÂ’s Matt Kinsinger and Tampa BayÂ’s Lawrence Samuels.
Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: ChicagoÂ’s Raymond Philyaw, ColoradoÂ’s John Dutton, Los AngelesÂ’ Remy Hamilton, New YorkÂ’s Mike Horacek, OrlandoÂ’s Joe Hamilton, San JoseÂ’s Calvin Schexnayder and Tampa BayÂ’s Clif Dell.
ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: ChicagoÂ’s Russell Shaw, ColoradoÂ’s Rashad Floyd, Los AngelesÂ’ Antuan Simmons, New OrleansÂ’ B.J. Cohen, New YorkÂ’s Billy Parker, OrlandoÂ’s Damon Mason and San JoseÂ’s Omarr Smith.
