Tennessee Valley Raptors News Release
Huntsville, AL- The Tennessee Valley Vipers are set to open the 2004 season against the Bakersfield Blitz on April 3 at the Von Braun Center. The arenafootball2 league released the Vipers 16-game schedule today.
The Vipers will compete in the American Conference's Midsouth Division alongside Arkansas, Bossier City and Memphis, but will also play former South Division rivals Birmingham, Florida and Macon in home-and-home series.
Tennessee Valley plays Quad City (April 17) and Laredo (April 23), before playing three of its next four games at home. The Vipers host Memphis (May 1), travel to Arkansas (May 8), then host Bossier City (May 15) and Florida (May 22).
Other home games will include Arkansas (June 5), Birmingham (June 19), Quad City (July 10) and Macon (July 17).
"Truthfully, as a coach, I don't worry about things I can't control,'' Tennessee Valley coach Kevin Guy said. "We're going to be in a new division this year and it seems like every year we have a pretty difficult schedule, but we've been able to overcome them so far. We're looking forward to it because at the end of the season we don't want to people to get the perception that we dodged anybody."
The Vipers won the South Division title last season with a 14-2 mark. Tennessee Valley then defeated Mohegan 47-30 in the first round of the af2 playoffs, before falling 51-48 to Macon in the American Conference championship game at the VBC.
"The best thing about this year's schedule is that we're playing some new teams, but we're still keeping our traditional rivalry with Birmingham and Quad City,'' Tennessee Valley owner Art Clarkson said.
"It's tough, but that makes for a good schedule."
