Published on July 25, 2006 under arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - Manchester wide receiver/linebacker WENDELL WILLIAMS, Central Valley quarterback SCOTT RISLOV, and Macon offensive/defensive lineman ED WANGLER have been named the U.S. Army Ironman, Schutt Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 17 of the 2006 season. In addition to these three awards, the recipient of the Cutters Catch of the Week Award goes to Rio Grande Valley offensive specialist DWIGHT COUNTER. The Catch of the Week is a new honor that highlights the player who makes the best catch of the week.

U.S. ARMY IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Williams (5-11, 190, Rhode Island) was an impact player on both sides of the ball and on special teams for Manchester in the team's important, 51-50, road win at Albany in Week 17. On offense, the talented second-year player caught three passes, including one for a touchdown, and accumulated 112 kick return yards as a fill-in for injured OS/KR Steve Gonzalez. The former Ram did his best "Speedy" impersonation by taking the first kick he saw and returning it 50 yards for a touchdown. Williams also made his mark on defense with 6.5 tackles and one interception. This is the first Ironman of the Week honor of his career.

SCHUTT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Rislov (6-2, 220, San Jose State) led Central Valley to an impressive, 60-42, home win against Oklahoma City in a matchup of two Top-5 teams in Week 17. The rookie signal caller threw for 355 yards and a season-high eight touchdowns without an interception. He completed 29-of-49 passes. The former San Jose State standout has had an outstanding first season in the af2. With one game still to play, Rislov has already thrown for 98 touchdowns and 4,105 yards. He's just one touchdown shy of the af2 record of 99 touchdown passes set by Matt Sauk in 2005. This is the first Offensive Player of the Week honor of Rislov's career.

ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Wangler (6-4, 260, Oregon), in his second af2 season, made his presence felt on defense for Macon in the team's 81-28 home win against Tennessee Valley in Week 17. The former Oregon Duck recorded 3.5 tackles, including 3.0 sacks (season-high) and two forced fumbles. Wangler's efforts were a big reason why the Knights surrendered a season-low 28 points to help keep their af2 playoff hopes alive. He has a team-record 13.0 sacks in 2006 (4th in af2). Wangler also owns the Macon career sack mark with 16.5 overall. This is the first ADT Defensive Player of the Week Award of his career.

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK

Rio Grande Valley offensive specialist Dwight Counter (6-2, 200, New Mexico), who is in his second af2 season, is the Week 17 recipient of the Cutters Catch of the Week Award, a weekly honor that has emerged this year to highlight the player who makes the best catch of the week. Counter's catch was a spectacular, one-handed 31-yard touchdown grab early in the first quarter of the Dorados' 52-46 home win against South Georgia. The former Lobo finished with a game-high 11 catches for 143 yards and three touchdowns. He now has 108 catches on the season, which is a new team record.
