Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - The Milwaukee Admirals dropped a 6-2 decision to the Toronto Marlies in game one of the Western Conference Quarterfinals on Friday at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The Marlies now own a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-five first round match-up.
Patrick Cehlin and Filip Forsberg provided the offense for the Admirals.
The first period of the game started with minimal shots, both teams only recorded single digits (Marlies 9, Admirals 7) in the opening stanza. However, the Marlies were first to get on the board when Sam Carrick scored with 2:14 to play in the first, assisted by Greg McKegg and Kevin Marshall.
Toronto kept up the scoring at 1:55 of the second with a power play goal from Josh Leivo making the score 2-0. Leivo shot the puck from the top of the left circle and over the left shoulder of Marek Mazanec to score, he was assisted by Trevor Smith and Stuart Percy.
Cehlin scored first for the Ads with just 2:13 left in the second. Bryan Rodney passed quick to Calle Jarnkrok near the right circle. Jarnkrok fed the pass from the right wing wall to Cehlin in front of the net. Cehlin directed the puck over the glove of Drew MacIntrye to make the score 2-1.
The Marlies responded when T.J. Brennan increased the scoring gap a little over a minute later with 1:05 left to play in the second. Brennan's shot from the right points deflected off an Admirals player and past Mazanec to make the score 3-1.
The third period started just 46 seconds in with a goal from Toronto's Jerry D'Amigo to make the score 4-1. D'Amigo tipped the puck in after a wrister from Brennan.
At 2:09 into the third Forsberg tallied his first ever post season goal. Rodney grabbed the puck at the top of the right circle and swiftly progressed it across to the left circle. Forsberg received the puck at the left dot and shot in between MacIntyre's knees. MacIntyre slowed the puck down but not enough as it crept across the goal line to pull within two at 4-2.
However, that's as close as the Ads would get as Toronto scored a pair of empty net goals. First by Kenny Ryan with 1:39 left in the game and the second by Carrick with 50 seconds to go.
Rodney bagged a two-point night with assists on both Cehlin and Forsberg's goals.
