ELMA, N.Y. ( Monday, March 17, 2014 ) - Western New York Flash goalkeeper Adrianna Franch is expected to miss the 2014 National Women's Soccer League season after sustaining a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee during the club's first preseason training session.

"This is obviously devastating news, especially after the tremendous first season AD had with us last year," Flash general manager and head coach Aaran Lines said. "She's a very talented young player with great potential. We wish her a successful surgery and a quick and healthy recovery so she can return to the field with us."

Franch, 23, led the NWSL in multiple goalkeeping categories during her rookie season. After playing in all but two minutes during the 2013 season, Franch finished the year as the league's leader in minutes (1978), saves (98) and goals against average (.909), while also helping to lead the Flash to the best defense with only 20 goals against.

The Oklahoma State product was also the runner-up for both NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

"Any player would be upset about a season-ending injury and I, of course, am sad that I will be missing this season," Franch said. "I wish the Flash the best of luck this year and I will do all I can to return to the field even stronger in 2015."
