Rockford IceHogs News Release
St. Charles, Mo.- With a little help from their friends from Milwaukee, the Rockford IceHogs topped the Missouri River Otters and four National Hockey League skaters on Wednesday night 2-1 at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. Goaltender Seamus Kotyk, and a stingy defense, held Missouri to just one power play goal.
After a scoreless first period, the Otters notched their only goal of the game at 6:43 of the second period. Winger Jamal Mayers, one of the four St. Louis Blues skaters on the Otters, buried his first goal in a River Otters uniform top shelf on the power play for the 1-0 advantage.
But the Hogs responded when center J.C. Ruid out worked the Missouri defense in front of goalie Jason Tapp at 14:49, and backhanded home a Nathan Lutz rebound to tie the game at one apiece. In the third period, after a five-minute major for spearing on the Otters Glenn Detulleo, Hogs forward Brandon Segal, in his second game since being assigned from the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL), fired home his first tally as an IceHogs skater off of a Rod Aldoff blast on the power play at 15:15 of the final period.
That's all Rockford would need as they tightened things up and held Missouri to only 18 shots on goal, 17 of which were turned away by Kotyk. The River Otters managed only nine shots on goal in the second and third period combined. Tapp recorded 21 saves in the loss.
