Adirondack Lumberjacks News Release
Glens Falls, NY- The Adirondack Lumberjacks have signed RHP Jerry Dennis (Denny) Lail, the Northern League club announced today. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Lail pitched in the New York Yankees organization for seven years, before pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals Triple-A affiliate in Memphis, TN this season. Originally drafted by the Yankees in the 17th round of the 1995 draft, Lail compiled a 1-3 record with a 4.57 ERA in 41.1 innings pitched for the Memphis Redbirds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cardinals this season.
The 6-1, 172 pound pitcher finished the 2001 campaign with a 6-6 record and a 4.61 ERA for the Yankees Triple-A affiliate in Columbus, OH. Lail tossed 136.2 innings for the Clippers and struck out 105.
"We feel that Denny will add experience to our starting rotation coming from the triple-A level, and he will serve to further solidify our pitching," stated Jacks Manager Kash Beauchamp.
A native of Catawba, NC, the 27-year-old Lail is expected to join the club on the road in Berkshire.
To make room on the roster for Lail, the Lumberjacks traded catcher Chris Finnegan to the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League Central. In 25 games this season, Finnegan had hit just .209 with four RBI's. In return for Finnegan, the Jacks receive the Flyers first round pick in the 2003 tryout camp.
The Lumberjacks and Glens Falls National Bank are set to celebrate America's birthday on Friday, July 5th. The Lumberjacks will be playing Les Capitales de Quebec at 6 PM (gates open at 5 PM), with a fantastic fireworks display to follow the game, courtesy of Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Company.
