Adams Signs with Saskatchewan

Peoria, Illinois – Peoria Rough Riders Nose Tackle Marcus Adams has agreed to remain a Roughrider but to change locations and move north of the Boarder. The Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League have signed the talented nose tackle. Adams is the third member of Peoria's Indoor Football teams to get move up to the Canadian Football League in the last two years following Jason Johnson's move last year to Edmonton and Mike Sousa's acquisition by Calgary. The CFL's Pre-Season begins June 7th and the regular Season in Canada starts June 25. Adams will return home to help his mother recover after knee replacement surgery then head to Canadian.

"It is great to see this young man get to opportunity to comtinue his professional career at that higher level. He truly deserves the opportunity and we are all excited for him, " said Head Coach Bruce Cowdrey.

Adams had 9 and one half tackles in five games with the Peoria Rough Riders. Adams had 3.5 tackles in the opponent's backfield totaling 19 yards lost for the opposing team. Adams had 2.5 sacks for a total loss of 16 yards, and contributed 5 solo tackles while disrupting Tupelo's offense in Week One of the 2005 Rough Rider UIF season.. His speed and strength made him a camper in Tupelo's backfield all night. He had 1.5 tackles for Adams against Black Hills and continued to lead the pass pressure for the Rough Riders defense.

We're proud of the record this organization has of giving talented athletes like Marcus Adams the opportunity to progress in their professional football careers," said Bruce Cowdrey Head Coach of the Peoria Rough Riders.

Adams move to the Roughriders is a return to his professional home. Adams was with the Saskatchewan Roughriders 2003. He started nine games at defensive end there and also started in the CFL Western Semi-Final and Western Final. Adams had three defensive tackles in Western Semi-Final and had six defensive tackles in Western Final. Adams ended his first Canadian season with 13 defensive tackles and one tackle for a loss.

The Eastern Kentucky University standout started 33 games at EKU. Adams had stellar senior season, recording 81 defensive tackles, nine tackles for losses, and five quarterback sack. He was twice named 1st team All-Conference and once named 2nd team All-Conference, was a 2nd and 3rd team All-American. Marcus Adams finished college career with 204 defensive tackles, 29 tackles for losses, and 13 quarterback sacks.

The Peoria Rough Riders play Friday Night in Fort Wayne against the undefeated Freedom and then return home May 21st to play the Freedom again Saturday night. Kickoff the 21st is set for 7:05.
