Adams Does It All It Naturals Win

FRISCO, Texas -- When a player is in the zone, it is obvious to everyone with sight. Kansas City Royals No. 18 prospect and Naturals centerfield Lane Adams is in the proverbial zone. The Red Oak, Okla. native single-handedly gave the Naturals the lead, tied it, took back the lead again and kept it with a 3-for-4 showing on Sunday night in Northwest Arkansas (31-50/6-4) 6-5 win over the Frisco RoughRiders (44-35/4-6) on Sunday night at Dr. Pepper Ballpark.

The Naturals spotted the RoughRiders an early 2-0 lead headed in the third when Adams stepped to bat for his second plate appearance. Juan Graterol and Justin Trapp led off the frame with back-to-back singles to set the table for Adams who deposited his ninth home run of the season well over the leftfield wall to give Northwest Arkansas a 3-2 lead.

Northwest Arkansas found themselves down 5-4 after five inning when Adams, again, had the table set by the lower portion with a Graterol single, Trapp walked followed by Ethan Chapman's fifth sacrifice of the season. The former 13th round draft pick smoked a sacrifice fly to left to tie the game at five a piece.

In the eighth inning, with two hits and four runs batted in under his belt, Adams smoked a two-strike, two-out triple into the right-center gap to plate Trapp from third to put Northwest Arkansas ahead for good. Adams would make sure the score held by robbing Frisco's Teodoro Martinez of a solo home run in the home half of the eighth to cap off his historic night.

The five runs batted in are the most by Adams since he belted three home runs in an August 13 game in 2013 against the Corpus Christi Hooks and tallied seven runs batted in. His home run total augmented to nine on the season giving him five home runs and nine RBI in his last 11 games.

Royals No. 4 prospect Jorge Bonifacio tallied a two hit performance as he roped his 16th double of the season while Cheslor Cuthbert extended his hit streak to 11 games with a single in the second inning.

Both Graterol and Trapp finished their nights with two hits and two runs scored in the Naturals win.

LHP Scott Alexander earned his first win of the season tossing two scoreless frames and striking out one while RHP Andrew Triggs notched his 11th save in 12 chances.

The victory for Northwest Arkansas is the third over Frisco this season as it sets up a rubber match for Monday morning's contest.

First pitch for the rubber match is slated for 11:05a.m. RHP Jason Adam (2-7, 5.38) will take the hill for his 16th start this season against RHP Jerad Eickoff (5-5, 4.23). Adam struck out a season-high 10 in his most recent outing and holds a 3.20ERA over his last three starts. The No. 9 prospect has won two of his last three decisions.
