Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Harlingen, TX - The Alexandria Aces (56-30, 29-8) got two home runs to back Frank James Jr. (9-4) in a win over the first half champion Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (43-42, 14-21) 2-1 tonight at Harlingen Field.

Palmer Karr Jr. put the Aces on the board against Maximino de la Cruz (6-7) in the second with a solo home run over the left field wall to make it 1-0.

Ryan Fox responded against James (9-4) with an absolute blast to left, his league-leading 20th of the season, one shy of the single-season record, to tie the game in the fourth.

Selwyn Langaigne hit a solo-shot of his own over the right field wall with two outs in the sixth on an 0-2 pitch, his eighth of the season, to put the Aces back on top 2-1.

That was enough for James, who went six and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.

De la Cruz matched him almost pitch for pitch, going the complete nine innings, allowing two runs on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Justin Dowdy struck out the side in a perfect ninth for his 22nd save.

Aces' first baseman Josh Tranum went 0-2 with two walks to snap his league-best 23-game hitting streak.

The WhiteWings and play a doubleheader (two seven inning games) tomorrow night at 6:05. Julian Williams (5-4) and Kenny Evoniuk (1-3) will face Luis Galarraga (7-3) and Josue Matos (0-0).
