Aces Nip WhiteWings, 2-1
Harlingen, TX, Friday August 10, 2007- In a hopeful preview of the 2007 Championship sereies, The Aces got solo home runs from Palmer Karr and Selwyn Langaigen to defeat the Rio Grande WhiteWings by the score of 2-1 in front of 2,612 at Harlingen Field.
Frank James went 6.2 innings, allowing one run on seven, while walking two and striking out seven. James (9-4) only allowed a solo home run to Ryan Fox in the fourth inning. Juan Carlos Ovalles worked 1.1 innings in relief, allowing no runs on one hit, while stiking out three and walking one. Justin Dowdy struke out the side to record his league leading 22nd save of the season.
Palmer Karr and Selwyn Langaigne both went 1-for-4 with a solo home runs to lead the Aces. Alexandria only managed six hits, but the hits came at the most opportuned time. Palmer Karr's came in the second inning to give the Aces a 1-0 lead. After Ryan Fox tied it up with a solo shot in the fourth, Selwyn langaigne crushed an 0-2 pitch from Maximino DeLaCRuz over the right field wall, one that proved to be the winning run.
Luis Guance was the only Ace with a multiple hit game, going 2-for-4. Bryan Sabatella added a hit, going 1-for-4 with a double.
Josh Tranum's league leading 23 game hitting streak came to end, with Tranum going 0-for-2 with two walks.
Maximino DeLaCruz went the distance for the WhiteWings, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking oit four and walking three. DeLaCruz (6-7) threw 123 pitches, 76 for strikes.
Ryan Fox and Luany Sanchez had multiple hit games for the WhiteWings, who managed 8 hit off of Aces pitching/
With the win the Aces omprove to 56-30 overall and 29-8 in the second half, both league bests.
The loss drops the WhiteWings to 43-42 overall, and 14-22 in the second half.
