Aces whitewash Falcons 2-0, series tied 1-1

Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Chris Beckford-Tseu stopped all 24 shots he faced as the Aces whitewashed the Fresno Falcons 2-0 before another capacity crowd of 6,251 Wednesday at Alaska's Sullivan Arena.

Alaska has not lost two games in a row all year and has not been beaten in consecutive games at home since April 2004, when Idaho eliminated the Aces in the Pacific Division Finals. The win also ended a streak of 11 straight games between Alaska and Fresno at Sullivan Arena that had been decided by one goal.

For the second straight game in this National Conference Final, the teams played a scoreless first period and looked like they might do the same in the second, until the Aces were awarded their sixth and final power play late in the middle frame. After a shot from the point by defenseman Peter Metcalf, a loose puck was corralled by Chris Minard, who while on his knees, snapped a pass across the crease to a wide-open Filion, who found the empty net for a 1-0 lead with 3:02 left in the second period.

Both teams had chances in the third leading up to an odd-man rush for Alaska, when Cam Keith found Mike Scott for the insurance goal the Aces never got Monday night in a 3-2 loss in the series opener. That defeat marked Alaska's first when leading after two periods all season. Scott's seventh of the playoffs came with 5:47 left in regulation, and Beckford-Tseu held sway to preserve his second shutout since re-joining the Aces after starting four games for Peoria in the Calder Cup playoffs.

The 2006 National Conference Finals, a best-of-seven series now tied at one game apiece, shift to Fresno for Games Three and Four Friday and Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. AST, with Game Five set for Tuesday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. AST. Alaska has won nine straight games at Fresno's Save-Mart Center, including two in the final week of the regular season.

All Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com, where the games also are available on a pay-per-view basis, courtesy of B2 Networks. In addition, all three games in Fresno will be telecast live on GCI Channel 88, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play and John Carpenter serving as color analyst. Coverage of each game begins at 6:15 p.m. AST
