Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â The Alaska Aces have signed defenseman Keith McCambridge for the 2004-05 season as a player/assistant coach, a reprise of his role during the 2003-04 campaign.
The six-foot, 215-pound McCambridge, who turned 30 last February, came to Alaska after eight full seasons in either the American Hockey League or the International Hockey League. He scored one goal and assisted on five others in 63 regular season games for the Aces to go along with 171 minutes in penalties. McCambridge narrowly missed out on being the hero of Game Four of the 2004 Pacific (since changed to Western) Division Finals, when he scored to give Alaska a 2-1 lead late in the second period against Idaho, who eventually rallied for a 3-2 win to eliminate the Aces. Originally an eighth round pick of the Calgary Flames in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, he lives in Manitoba during the off-season but should return to Anchorage sometime in early August to aid in the recruiting process.
"As a player, Keith's experience on the blue line is invaluable for us, especially in clutch situations," said Alaska head coach Davis Payne. "I think he became increasingly comfortable in his player assistant role as last season wore on and I see him assuming even greater responsibility in that capacity this season."
Alaska will open next season on the road, with an October 22-23 weekend in Boise against the defending Kelly Cup champion Idaho Steelheads. The home opener on October 29 will feature a rematch against the San Diego Gulls, who finished with the league's best regular season record last year but were swept out of the playoffs by the Aces in three straight games. 2004-05 season tickets are on sale now. Once again, KFQD 750 AM will broadcast live all Alaska Aces games, with the live feed also available at www.alaskaaces.com.
