San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls and forward Chris Gobert have agreed to terms for the 2004-05 season, head coach Martin St. Amour announced on Tuesday. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Gobert, 24, re-joins the Gulls for his second season. He split time with San Diego and the Idaho Steelheads in 2003-04 (his rookie year), accumulating 40 points (18g, 22a) and 14 penalty minutes in 63 games. With just the Gulls, Gobert notched 33 points (16g, 17a) in 43 games played. San Diego acquired the 5-foot-9-inch, 170-pound native of Marquette, Mich. on Dec. 12, 2003 from Idaho in exchange for Miguel Delisle.

"It's nice to go back somewhere and be wanted," Gobert said. "San Diego is a great place to play. It has a winning tradition and hopefully we can keep that going.

"I know it's big change with Martin taking over, but he can do it. He definitely has the capabilities of putting together a winning team."

Gobert began his career late in the 2002-03 season with the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, when he recorded one assist and two penalty minutes in three games.

Before turning pro, the now-sophomore center played four years at Northern Michigan University, where he tallied a total of 148 points (62g, 86a) in 142 games. During his collegiate career, Gobert was named club MVP and to the All-Academic Team (2002-03), while making the All-Rookie Team (1999-00).

The Gulls open their second season in the ECHL Friday, Oct. 22 in Long Beach and open their home schedule Saturday, Oct. 23 against Fresno. Season ticket packages are currently on sale.
