Reno Aces News Release
TUCSON, Ariz.-Trevor Bauer dealt seven shutout innings and matched a career-high in strikeouts Friday night, lifting the Reno Aces to a 4-0 victory over the Tucson Padres at Kino Stadium.
With the victory, the first-place Aces now have won five-straight games and 10 of their last 11. Reno has opened its 12-day, 11-game, three-city road trip with a 5-1 record.
The Aces offense pushed across single runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, and the Reno pitching staff took care of the rest.
Bauer (3-0) scattered five hits over seven scoreless frames in a 101-pitch effort Friday night. After entering the game with more strikeouts than any other professional pitcher this season, the Arizona Diamondbacks No. 1 prospect tied a career-best with 11 punchouts against the Padres.
After Bauer's exit, Takashi Saito worked a scoreless eighth inning, continuing his Major League Rehabilitation Assignment. Mike DeMark finished things up in the ninth to preserve the Aces' second shutout of the season.
Tucson starter Kip Wells (1-2) took the loss, surrendering four runs-three earned-on eight hits and seven walks over 5.1 innings of work.
At the dish for Reno, Ryan Wheeler, Mike Jacobs, A.J. Pollock and Taylor Harbin registered two hits apiece. Jake Elmore drove in two runs and stretched his hitting streak to a career-high 18 games.
The Aces look to seal a series victory on Saturday night at Kino Stadium. RHP Joe Martinez (4-3, 5.43 ERA) looks for his fifth-straight win for Reno, while Tucson counters with RHP Anthony Reyes (0-2, 4.97 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or by visiting RenoAces.com.
Reno returns home on Thursday, June 14. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
