
Aces Roll Past WhiteWings

Harlingen, TX - The second half and defending United League champion Alexandria Aces (1-0) exploded for six runs in the seventh and never looked back as they defeated the first half champion Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (0-1) 13-2 in game on of the United League Championship Series tonight at Harlingen Field.
The Aces got on the board against Joe Rogers (0-1) in the second when Josh Tranum led off with a ten-pitch walk and Palmer Karr Jr. followed with a home run over the left-center field wall to make it 2-0.
The Aces broke it open in the seventh when they sent ten men to the plate against Rogers and Bobby Darling. Evan Cherry led off with a single and Eddie Fitzpatrick sacrificed him to second. Tyrone Pendergrass followed with an RBI-double. One out later, Selwyn Langaigne singled and Tranum walked to load the bases and knock out Rogers. Darling came in and gave up a two-run single to Karr. Luis Guance followed with a three-run home run to make it 8-0.
Rogers ended up going six and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on six hits with three walks and 12 strikeouts, more than he had in any game during the regular season.
The WhiteWings finally broke through against Pedro Flores (1-0) in the bottom of the frame when Miguel Peguero led off with a single and Luany Sanchez hit a two blast down the left field line to make it 8-2.
Flores was dominant throughout, allowing two runs on five hits with no walks and eight strikeouts in seven innings.
The Aces responded with three more against Darling in the eighth. With one out, Pendergrass and Richard Paz singled. Langaigne followed with an RBI-double. After an intentional walk to Tranum loaded the bases, Karr hit a two-run double to make it 11-2.
In the ninth, the Aces tacked on two more against Todd Lutz. Bryan Sabatella led off with a walk and Cherry singled to move Sabatella to third. Eddie Fitzpatrick hit a sacrifice fly to drive home Sabatella. Pendergrass singled and Paz walked to load the bases to set up Langaigne's RBI-single to cap the scoring at 13-2.
The WhiteWings and Aces play game two tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Kenny Evoniuk (3-3, 4.97) will face Frank James Jr. (9-5, 3.95)
