Aces Collect 16 Hits, Roll 13-2

Harlingen, TX Friday August 24, 2007- The Alexandria Aces pounded out 16 hits tonight and defeated the Rio Grande WhiteWings by the score of 13-2 in Game 1 of the Championship Series in front of 2,050 fans at Harlingen Field.

Pedro Flores, making his first start with the Aces, worked 7.0 dominating innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out eight and not walking a batter. Flores (1-0) had all three of his pitches working tonight, a fastball, curveball, and a changeup to each of the hitters in the WhiteWing lineup. Juan Carlos Ovalles and Justin Dowdy each worked a scoreless inning in relief to gain the early advantage in the series.

Palmer Karr was 3-for-6 with six runs batted in and two runs scored, with a monsterous two run blast in the second inning off of WhiteWing starter Joe Rogers. The two run home run put the Aces up for good and they never looked back. Selwyn Langaigne was 4-for-6 with two runs driven in and two runs scored to lead the 16 hit attack for Alexandria. Tyrone Pendergrass added three hits, and Evan Cherry had a two hit performance as well. Richard Paz, Luis Guance, and Bryan sabatella all chipped in with a hit too. The only Ace without a hit was Eddie Fitzpatrick, but he contributed with a sacrifice bunt and a rbi sacrifice fly.

Rio starter Joe Rogers (11-4) worked 6.2 innings, allowing six runs on six hits, whlie striking out 12 ans walking three. Rogers threw a season high 147 pitches, with a majority of them coming in the first five innings. Bobby Darling worked 1.1 innings of relief, and allowed five runs on seven hits. Todd Lutz worked the ninth inning, allowing two runs on three hits.

The only run from Rio Grande came on a two run home run from Luany Sanchez off of Flores in the seventh inning, when the game was already 8-0.

Kuany Sanchez had the only multiple hit game for the WhiteWings with a 2-for-4 night and two runs driven in.

The WhiteWings managed only five hits in Game 1.
