Alexandria Aces News Release
The Alexandria Aces of the Central Professional Baseball League announced today the signing of pitchers Ryan Snyder and Danny Stout and catcher Jerry Valdez. These signings bring the Aces 2002 roster to 18 players.
Snyder, a southpaw, returns to the Aces for his third season after finishing 2001 with a 2-3 record and 3.58 ERA. He will be used primarily out of the bullpen for the team this year.
Right-hander Stout, a graduate of Southern Mississippi, joins the Aces staff this season after completing his rookie campaign with the Greenville Bluesmen of the former Texas-Louisiana League. He went 5-9 with a 4.88 ERA and struck out 62 while walking only 35 in 83.0 innings pitched.
Valdex, the Philadelphia Phillies 25th round selection in the 1997 draft, will compete for the starting catchers position. The five-year veteran advanced through the Phillies farm system, reaching their Triple "A" club last season where he hit .308 in limited action.
Field Manager John O'Brien said, "Snyder will be counted on to come out of the bullpen and match up with left-handed hitters late in the game, while Stout will compete for the closer's role. Valdez will be asked to show his experience and leadership by taking control of the pitching staff."
The Central Professional Baseball League, formerly the Texas-Louisiana League founded in 1994, is an independent league of eight professional baseball teams located throughout four southern states. The league is preparing for its ninth season this summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Ft. Worth, Rio Grande Valley (Harlingen) and San Angelo, Texas; Alexandria, Louisiana; Jackson, Mississippi; and Springfield/Ozark, Missouri. The CPBL will play a 96 game schedule between May and August of 2002.
