2. A Look Back
Here is a recap of the last week in Aces baseball...
Monday June 9: ALEXANDRIA 4, Ft. Worth 3
Game Summary: This was a great night. Maury Wills came out to the ballpark early to talk with the Aces and work with them on the field. What ever he said must have given our guys the boost they needed because they turned it on and broke their seven game losing streak. All four of the Aces runs came in the bottom of the first inning and with Shaun Shiery, the Aces ace on the mound there was no doubt a victory would prevail. Maury was on hand during the game to sign autographs and meet with fans. We had plenty of ball players on hand to enjoy in the festivities as it was also youth baseball night. Everyone really enjoyed the evening.
Tuesday June 10: ALEXANDRIA 10, Ft. Worth 6
Game Summary: Kevin Lynn (3-3) was the winning pitcher for the Aces. He allowed only eight hits, three runs, no walks, and had five strike outs through six innings. The offense showed what they were made of when Brian Schmitt hit a grand slam in the seventh inning to stretch Alexandria's lead to 10-3, and the team held on for a 10-6 victory. Our second baseman Dan Boyle went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Not only was the team having fun, but so were the fans. Holsum Bread was on hand for the night throwing out tasty Hostess cakes as well as Holsum Bread beanies into the crowd.
Wednesday June 11: ALEXANDRIA 11, Ft. Worth 7
Game Summary: Casey Johnson (2-2) took the mound and came off with a win, allowing four hits, three runs, one walk and five strikeouts in six innings of work. We had eight runs in the third inning to jump out to an 11-0 lead. Our defense held off a comeback attempt by Fort Worth to earn an 11-7 victory. Alexandria DH Samone Peters went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs.
Friday June 13: Springfield/Ozark 3, ALXEXANDRIA 2
Game Summary: After winning three games at home the Aces hit the road. After a 2-1 lead, for most of the game, the Mountain Ducks came back in the seventh inning to claim the 3-2 victory over Alexandria.
Saturday June 14: Springfield/Ozark 0, ALEXANDRIA 2
Game Summary: After good defensive efforts on the field, the Aces were unable to put their bats in motion.
Sunday June 15: ALEXANDRIA 10, Springfield/Ozark 1
Game Summary: With two losses to Springfield/Ozark, the Aces were hungry. With that hunger and Shaun Shiery on the mound you get a winning recipe. Chad Stewart had a 2 run in the park homerun in the first.
