Aces meet Dayton in Pre-season

Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces and Dayton Bombers will meet in Anchorage for a pair of pre-season games Wednesday, October 12, and Thursday, October 13, at 7:15 p.m.
The two teams met last season on February 20 in Dayton, Ohio, with Alaska pulling out a 3-1 verdict behind Mike Scott's game-winning goal and three assists each from Chris Minard and Scott Gomez. The Bombers out-shot the Aces in every period and 41-24 for the game, but were stymied by Peter Aubry's 40 saves and captain Keith McCambridge, who fought twice in the victory.
Dayton finished in the North Division basement last year at 23-40-9, but figures to rebound under the veteran leadership of head coach Don MacAdam, who led Charlotte to the ECHL playoffs in 2001 and formerly served as an NHL assistant with the Detroit Red Wings in the late 1980's.
"I know Don quite well, having coached against him when I was in Pee Dee and he was in Charlotte," said Alaska coach Davis Payne. "I guarantee he'll have his club prepared, which is part of the reason I wanted to invite Dayton up here. The games will give us an excellent barometer of where we need to be when the regular season begins."
The Aces are 3-1 in pre-season play under Payne, including a sweep of Greenville last year and a split with Trenton in 2003. Alaska currently has three players under contract, with at least one more signing expected to be announced by the end of this week.
The Aces open the 2005-06 regular season Friday, October 21 against the San Diego Gulls at 7:15 p.m. in Sullivan Arena. Alaska advanced to Game Seven of the National Conference Finals last year after winning the West Division with a 45-19-8 record during the regular season. The Aces are proud affiliates of the St. Louis Blues (NHL) and the Peoria Rivermen (AHL). For season ticket information, please call 258-ACES.
