Alexandria, LA May 17, 2002

The Alexandria Aces of the Central Professional Baseball League signed outfielder Scott Townsend to their 2002 roster. Townsend, a graduate of Jena High School just completed his senior year at Louisiana College in Pineville, LA.

This past season with Louisiana College, Townsend hit .370 with 6 HR's and 40 RBI. He was a First Team American Southwest Conference selection and First Team All ASC East Division. Louisiana College finished second in the ASC East-Division with a 13-10 conference record.

Field Manager John O'Brien said, "This is a great situation for the Aces and for Scott. His friends and family can come out and watch him play all the time, and he'll attract more local fans to the game.

The Central Professional Baseball League, formerly the Texas-Louisiana League founded in 1994, is an independent league of eight professional baseball teams located throughout four southern states. The league is preparing for its ninth season this summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Ft. Worth, Rio Grande Valley (Harlingen) and San Angelo, Texas; Alexandria, Louisiana; Jackson, Mississippi; and Springfield/Ozark, Missouri. The CPBL will play a 96 game schedule between May and August of 2002.
