Aces Fall to Laredo, 7-2

Alexandria, LA, Sunday August 5, 2007- Laredo salvaged the series with a 7-2 win over the Alexandria Aces tonight in front of 1,775 fans at Bringhurst Field. The Aces won the series two games to one by winning the first two games of the series.

Juan Jimenez worked 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits, while walking five and striking out four. Jimenez (1-2), making his first start of thr season against the Aces, threw 112 pitches, 61 for strikes. Rusty Jones worked 1.2 innings in relief, allowing one hit and striking out two in his scorless relief appearance. Henry Lozado worked a perfect ninth preserve the victory for Laredo.

Javier Lopez was 4-for-6 with three runs driven and a run scored to pace the Laredo 16 hit attack. Edwin Maldonado was 3-for-6 with a run scored as well. Randy Rosa and Edgard Clemente also added multiple hits for the Broncos with two a piece.

Aces starter Frank James didn't have his normal control today working 6.1 innings, allowing six runs on 13 hits, while walking six and striking out five. James (8-4) worked into the seventh inning after retiring the first two Broncos in the inning. After a two out walk from Ivan Reyes, and a double from J.M. Devarie, Randy Rosa delivered a two run single to run James from the game with a 5-2 score. Charlie Foster worked 1.1 innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out four. Walt Nolenn worked a scoreless ninth for his lone inning in relief.

Josh Tranum extended his hit streak to 16 games with an infield single in the eighth inning off of Rusty Jones. Tranum was 1-for-4 on the day. Richard Paz was the only Ace with a multiple hit game going 2-for-3. Luis Guance added his 11th home run of the season with a solo shot in the fourth inning. Bryan Sabatella, Palmer Karr, and Wilson Burwell accounted for the other hits in the Aces lineup.

The win improves the Broncos to 34-48 overall and 14-19 in the second half. The loss drops the Aces to 52-30 overall and 25-8 in the second half, with a seven game lead with 17 games to play.
