Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces, proud ECHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League, have agreed to terms with free agent forwards Shane Heffernan and Justin Breton, Aces head coach Rob Murray announced today.
"Shane and Justin are two players with key attributes we've identified that have a potential to make a great impact with our team," said Murray. "Shane brings a dynamic level of speed, along with an aggressive and tenacious style that translates well with our identity. Justin developed into a hard-working, physical and strong-skating forward in college who embraces a punishing style of play at the net."
Heffernan, 26, spent last season in Belarus with HK Vitebsk and collected a goal and an assist in 11 games while adding nine points (5g-4a) in four games with Osby IK in Sweden. He has suited up in parts of the last four seasons in Europe and earned a career-high 49 points (24g-25a) and +38 rating in 36 games with the Tonsberg Vikings (Norway) in 2010-11, ranking second with 24 goals.
The 5-foot-11, 181 pound forward also skated with Chi-Town, Evansville and Chicago of the All-American Hockey League from 2008-10 and posted 136 points (53g-83a) in 63 career games. He led the league in scoring with 91 points (34a-57a) and in assists (57) in 2008-09 with Chi-Town and Evansville.
Breton, 25, spent the last four seasons with Bentley University (NCAA), earning 65 points (27g-38a) in 140 career games. His 13 goals as a 2012-13 junior were tied for second in the program and he earned a career-high 21 points in 32 games that season.
The 6-foot-1, 191 pound forward was second among Bentley's freshmen with nine points and six assists, also appearing in all 34 games during the 2010-11 campaign.
