Alaska Aces News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Alaska Aces have announced that winger Judd Blackwater, who scored last night for the National Conference at the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game, has been acquired from the Stockton Thunder in exchange for the ECHL rights to Colin Hemingway.

Blackwater earned a trip to the midseason classic as a result of his 29 points (14g-15a) in 35 games for Stockton this season, the second-highest point total on the club. His seven power play goals ranks among the league's top 10. The 22-year-old Blackwater split last season among four teams (two ECHL, two AHL) after winning the 2008 Memorial Cup with the Spokane Chiefs in the Western Hockey League in his final year of juniors.

In his third season with the Chiefs, Blackwater registered 31 regular season goals and added 10 more in Spokane's playoff run. The six-foot, 193-pounder led the Thunder to a three-game sweep of the Aces in Anchorage in mid-December, scoring a goal and two assists in a 5-4 win Dec.12, then adding a goal and a helper in a 4-3 victory the next night.

Hemingway, 29, produced 13 goals and 17 assists in 28 games for Alaska this season after helping the Aces reach the Kelly Cup Finals a year ago. He has been recalled by Alaska's American Hockey League affiliate in Peoria and been re-assigned to Stockton. In a separate transaction, Alaska's NHL affiliate in St. Louis has re-assigned forward Anthony Peluso to the Aces from Peoria, where he scored his first professional goal Dec. 4 against Manitoba and recorded 45 PIM in 17 games for the Rivermen.

Like Blackwater, Alaska center Nick Mazzolini also scored in last night's ECHL All-Star Game, won by the American Conference 10-9 in a shootout. He also had two assists as part of a three-point night; his linemate with the Aces, John Lammers, did not figure in the scoring and returns to the Providence Bruins today on loan from Alaska.

With five wins in their last six games to close out a 7-2-1 homestand, the Aces enter this weekend's two-game set at Stockton 18-18-3 overall. Blackwater expects to make his Alaska debut tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. AT in the opener, with Saturday's rematch also slated for 6:30 p.m. AT.

Both games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, with coverage getting underway from Stockton Arena at 6:15 p.m. In five previous meetings between the two clubs, the road team has won each time, as the Aces swept a pair from the Thunder in Stockton November 6-7.
