Akron RubberDucks News Release
(Akron, Ohio) June 29, 2014 - Akron's Adam Abraham was 3-4, with a homer and six RBI Sunday afternoon, helping the RubberDucks to an 11-2 victory over the Harrisburg Senators at Canal Park.
Abraham was playing just his second of the season with the RubberDucks after joining the roster on Saturday from Triple- A Columbus. After a two-hit night on Saturday, Abraham finished with five hits in the series. He is appearing with Akron for the third straight season.
Abraham belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth during a five-run rally that broke the game open in Akron's favor. He also doubled in a run during Akron's three-run first inning.
Shortstop Erik Gonzalez also enjoyed a great day at the plate. He recorded his first Double-A hit in the first inning. He went 3-4 on the afternoon, crossing the plate three times.
Gonzalez produced his second hit of the game in the fifth, followed by his first stolen base. A single in the seventh earned Gonzalez his first Akron RBI. Abraham's second double of the afternoon followed, sending two more RubberDucks across the plate and giving Akron a 6-2 lead in the seventh.
A lead-off double by Ollie Linton in the first off Harrisburg starter Brett Brach (1-3) got the RubberDucks on base early in the game. Linton went 1-4 on the afternoon, following his 3-3 appearance and two-run homer Saturday evening.
Akron starter Joe Colon (8-4) earned his third consecutive and team-high eighth win for the RubberDucks (47-35). Colon allowed two hits, one earned run and walked five batters.
The RubberDucks will travel to Erie, PA on Monday to take on the SeaWolves, who are currently ranked fourth in the EL.
The four-game series will kick off at 7:05 p.m. at Jerry Uht Park. Righty Will Roberts (7-8) will start for Akron, and right- hander Nick Avila (0-3) will take the mound for Erie. The game will be broadcast on WARF 1350 AM and www.AkronRubberDucks.com.
The Akron RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The 2014 season is its 18th since moving to Canal Park and its first since becoming the RubberDucks.
