Aberdeen Falls in Rain-shortened Affair

(ABERDEEN, MD) - Oneonta shutout the 'Birds for a 3-0 victory in a rain shortened affair on Wednesday evening at Ripken Stadium.

The game was concluded after seven and a half innings due to heavy rain storms that hit the area. The 'Birds fell for the fourth consecutive evening after recording nine hits. The Tigers plated six hits in the victory.

Starter Brandon Erbe fell to 0-1 in his third rehab start after giving up an earned run on three hits in four innings pitched with a pair of strikeouts.

Oneonta put up the three-run spot in the third inning as two unearned runs were scored. Christopher Sedon led off with a single to left field before Jamie Johnson reached on with a single. Johnson advanced on an error and scored on a pass ball that skipped away from the catcher Brian Ward.

Blake Davis relished in the lead-off spot with a 3-for-4 evening, recording his third multi-hit game with the 'Birds.

Tyler Townsend recorded his first professional hit with a single to left field in the fifth inning. Townsend, a Lewes, Delaware native, added a double in the seventh to hit 2-for-3 in his third game of the season.

Outfielder Richard D'Oleo, who went 1-for-4, extended his hit streak to five games with a single in the second inning.

Relievers Brian Sisk and James Brandhorst combined the final four innings, giving up no runs on three hits with four strikeouts.

The game was delayed for 35 minutes before being officially ended by the umpires.

Game two of the three-game set will begin at 7:05 p.m. at Ripken Stadium on Thursday. 'Birds right-hander Ken Moreland (2-0, 0.75 ERA) will face right-hander Gary Perinar (0-1, 5.79 ERA).
