
Abbotsford Heat Name Luke Strand as Assistant

Abbotsford, BC - The Abbotsford Heat announced today that Luke Strand has been named Assistant Coach with the Abbotsford Heat.
"I had the opportunity to work alongside Luke for two seasons in Houston and I am happy we are getting the chance to coach together again. He is an amazing teacher and will be a tremendous help in developing our young players," said Heat Head Coach Troy Ward. "With the addition of Luke, Cail MacLean and Jordan Sigalet, we are excited about the staff we have put together here in Abbotsford and are looking forward to the start of the camp."
Strand, born in Angeles City, Philippines, has two years of coaching experience in the American Hockey League as he was on staff with Troy Ward as a fellow Assistant Coach with the Houston Aeros from 2007-09 and making it to the Western Finals in 2009. Luke broke in to the coaching ranks with the Green Bay Gamblers in the USHL where he was an Assistant Coach from 2003-05 and most recently was the Head Coach of the USHL's Sioux City Musketeers for the last two seasons.
Luke played his junior hockey for the North Iowa Huskies in the USHL for two seasons before attending the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire from 1993-97 where he registered 41 goals and 44 assists over his four seasons. At the conclusion of his collegiate career, Strand spent three years in Madison, Wisconsin playing for their United Hockey League teams before retiring in 2000.
