North Texas Fresh News Release
Fort Worth - Dallas - Trimble Tech High School alum Jay Bowdy is in the midst of another stellar season with the North Texas Fresh, but being a young basketball Owner (27 yrs old) with a passion for the youth has geared him up for something besides accolades for himself or his Fresh players. Bowdy and the Fresh have devoted September 25, 2010 to helping with a basketball skills camp for the youth of the Boys and Girls Club in Arlington, TX.
Bowdy averaged better than 18 points and 13 rebounds, helping lead the Fresh to a second-place spot in the ABA Southwest Division last season - where he was named an ABA ALL-Star and selected to the ALL-ABA Team. He's focused on the Fresh making a championship push, but he's also excited about the camp that the Fresh will help with for the youth.
"It's going to be great to come help the Boys and Girls Club with the basketball clinic. I'm really looking forward to teaching the kids some fundamentals and getting a chance to give back to my community," stated Bowdy. "There's always something new to teach youth and hopefully the youth can take what we teach and tell more kids. We plan to do many events that will have kids from all over the state want to learn the game of basketball from us."
At the Boys and Girls Club youth clinic, Bowdy will also have a load of teammates in attendance, from starting Point Guard Montrell Williams to ABA All-Rookie Team Center Robert Taylor. Bowdy said he's not yet sure if every player on the roster will attend because scheduling conflicts must be worked out, however he promises big fun.
Bowdy said the response he got from doing a camp last year from members of the community was so positive, he wants to help with youth camps every opportunity offered.
"I'm just happy the Boys and Girls Club of Arlington want our hand in making such a positive impact for the kids. That's the biggest thing for me," stated Bowdy. "Last year, I received so much feedback from parents and kids, telling me how much fun they had, and how much they learned from a camp we did, and I am pretty much expecting the same to happen with this camp. We will teach fundamentals and skills, play games and have the kids compete with each other, but learn to show good sportsmanship. Doing this is a great cause and opportunity to learn the game of basketball, plus they get to learn from the pros."
The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Southeast Boys and Girls Club located at 2011 Wynn Terrace in Arlington, TX.
