Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that all ABA referees would be wearing a special patch, a memorial heart patch, with a red, white and blue letter C this season to honor the wife of ABA Director of Officials, Tom Chichester.

According to league officials, "Carol was very instrumental in the overall growth and development of the ABA officiating staff, now over 400 strong, the largest ever single staff of officials working within a professional league in the US. Carol-Petote-Chichester's constant support of husband Tom as well as her assistance to various details was key to making many of the things happen in the program.

Tom Chichester stated, "The development of the staff and the ABA game product - she became a part of those special few who helped blaze the trails towards ABA growth of what we see today. And we felt it is only right in honoring Carol in this way."

Memorial heart patches were presented and issued at the ABA National Rules Meeting in Rochester NY on November 5th at the Clarion Riverside Hotel.
