
ABA Pittsburgh Xplosion names head coach and TV coverage

Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release
Pittsburgh, PA. Tom Thacker, former first round pick of the Cincinnati Royals in the 1963 NBA Draft, was named Head Coach of the Pittsburgh Xplosion, Pittsburgh's ABA professional basketball team. Thacker, from the University of Cincinnati, played in the NBA from 1964-1968 and in the ABA from 1969-1971. He coached the University of Cincinnati's Women's Basketball Team from 1974-1978 and finished with a winning percentage of .571 (56-42) in the four years. Thacker was a player on those great University of Cincinnati teams of the early 1960s and in 1961-1962 he was the team's second leading scorer. He was named to the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team in 1962 along with John Havlicek and Jerry Lucas among others. The Xplosion which begins its second season in October will be lead by this experienced professional basketball mainstay.
In addition, the Xplosion is pleased to announce a television arrangement with WBGM Channel 21 in Pittsburgh. Beginning October 30th, through the end of Feb 2006, WBGM will televise 15 home games of the Xplosion. The live broadcasts will originate from Mellon Arena, home court of the team. The first year Xplosion, led by Coach Thacker, promises a thrilling style of play that can now be viewed on TV as well as live at the Mellon Arena.
