New Jersey Jackals News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals announced today that the club has re-signed right-handed pitcher Aaron Myers to a new contract for the 2003 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 26 year-old Myers, who earned the victory for the Jackals in the fourth and deciding game of the Northern League Championship Series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes last season, posted career-best numbers in nearly every pitching category in 2002.

Myers was 11-6 with a 3.28 ERA in 20 starts and 140 innings pitched a year ago. He led the league in complete games (7), shutouts (2) and games started (20), ranked 2nd in innings pitched, 3rd in wins and 9th in earned run average. Twice last season, Myers was selected as the Northern League East's Pitcher of the Week.

"Aaron was a big part of the championship that was won here a year ago," said Jackals' manager Joe Calfapietra. "I'm really excited to have him as one of the anchors of our rotation once again this season."

The California native originally was drafted by the Colorado Rockies as a third baseman in the 17th round of the 1994 draft. After spending four years in the Rockies' chain, Myers signed with the Milwaukee Brewers' organization and became a pitcher. In 2000 he appeared in a career-high 50 games for single-A Mudville; and in 2001 he spent the season with double-A Huntsville, allowing only 53 hits in 70 innings of work.

Myers and his teammates will begin spring training in early May. The Jackals open up the 2003 season on May 22nd with a home game against the Berkshire Black Bears. For Jackals' ticket information, fans can log on to www.jackals.com or call (973) 746-7434.
