Aaron Garcia Returns To Dragons
April 27, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
New York Dragons News Release
Aaron Garcia returns as the Dragons starting quarterback on Saturday night when the Dragons take on the Arizona Rattlers at 7:00 pm at the Nassau Coliseum.
Garcia was placed on the injured reserve list after suffering a fractured tibia in Week Five versus Orlando in the 2006 season. He remained for the first half of the 2007 season while continuing to rehab. Garcia is now ready to come back for his first game in more than a year.
"It's been a long time and it feels like forever," said Garcia. "I'm definitely excited to get back and play and also a little apprehensive. I just want to get this game going and try to help get the Dragons back on a winning streak."
Garcia also felt support was the key to his return.
"I'm excited that my first game back is a home game," he said. "I feel that fans really helped me get through this. Their support really made a difference, especially at times where I didn't know if I'd ever be able to play football again. To make my return at home is something I am happy to share with them."
Dragons head coach Weylan Harding spoke about Garcia's return.
"It's been a long journey as far as preparing for his return," said Harding. "We are hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. One, I'm happy for him to be back and lead this team. Two, I think he brings a certain energy and confidence to the team. It hasn't been easy but like anything else, we were going to put him back on the field when we thought he was ready and this is that moment."
Garcia has totaled 36,102 passing yards and 757 touchdowns in his 12-year AFL career. Last season in five games he recorded 121 completions on 157 attempts for 1,417 yards and 32 touchdowns. Garcia was also the first quarterback to throw for 700 (April 29, 2005 at Dallas) and 750 (February 19, 2006 at Philadelphia) touchdowns.
