Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis - It was an extra inning affair from Joannes Stadium as the Bullfrogs fell to the Rivets. The win gave the Rivets a sweep of the Bullfrogs in the final regular season meeting. The two teams finished winning four ballgames at piece. The Rivets pushed across two runs in the tenth to earn the victory 4-2 over the Bullfrogs. The Bullfrogs second half record moves to 17-17 and their overall to 32-38.
Both pitchers were cruising through the first three innings as the two teams combined for no runs and four hits. The Rivets would strike first as they plated two runs in the top of the fourth. The inning began with back to back doubles by Ryan Long (Texas Tech) and Ricardo Ramirez (UIC) to give the Rivets a one run lead. After a sac bunt from Kian O ' Brien (Madison Tech), Troy Traxler (Minnesota) hit a high chopping single over the head of shortstop Josh Hollander (Kent State) to bring home Ramirez.
After being held scoreless for the first five innings, the Bullfrogs finally cracked the Rivets starting pitcher Drake Robison (Iowa). Back to back hits for Laren Eustace (Indiana) and Hollander gave the Bullfrogs runners on first and third with one out. Marcus Shoemaker (Lenoir Rhyne) sent a single into right field to plate Eustace. The tying run, Hollander, would come in and score on a fielding error by Long at shortstop.
The game would remain tied 2-2 through nine innings. Harrisen Egly (Columbia) was masterful tonight as he went nine innings in a no decision. He only allowed two runs on nine hits and finished the game throwing five straight scoreless innings. His counterpart, Drake Robison, held his own as well. He went eight innings and allowed two runs on five hits and struck out five.
As the game headed into the tenth inning, BJ Sabol (Indiana) came on to pitch for the Bullfrogs. He gave up a lead-off single to Hunter Hargrove (Texas Tech) but was able to record outs on the next two batters. With a runner at first and two outs, Kian O ' Brien hit a groundball to Hollander at shortstop. Hollander bobbled the baseball and then threw it away. The Rivets now had runners on second and third with two outs. An intentional walk loaded the bases with Jack Wassel (Minnesota) stepping to the plate. Sabol walked back to back batters in Wassel and Brendan Williams (Texas Tech) to give the Rivets a 4-2 lead. In the bottom of tenth, the Bullfrogs went down in order to finish the game.
Offensively, the Bullfrogs were led by Laren Eustace as he had two hits, one stolen base, and run scored. Shoemaker recorded one hit and drove in one run.
The Bullfrogs begin a showdown with the Chinooks starting tomorrow. If the Bullfrogs win both ballgames, they head to the playoffs. It should be a fun finish to the 2016 NWL season.
