Spokane Chiefs News Release
The Spokane Chiefs have won 11 in a row (see below), their second longest in franchise history and face three games in three nights this week, two at home with a road game in between. The Vancouver Giants visit on Friday night and the Kelowna Rockets on Sunday with a trip to Cranbrook to take on the Ice in between. Sunday's game is a 6:00 start.
Spokane Chief forward Drayson Bowman was named the WHL's Player of the Week and Dustin Tokarski was the league's nominee for CHL Goaltender of the Week. They have both taken aim at the franchise's record book after Bowman had 10 points in three games and Tokarski back-to-back shutouts.
The Spokane Chiefs enter the week leading the WHL with 1.86 goals against per game and a penalty kill of 87.8%. Dustin Tokarski, who has six shutouts, and James Reid, four shutouts, have combined to post a 1.72 goals against average.
The Chiefs have allowed zero or one goal 19 times this season and have give up 93 goals in 50 games.
In their 11 game winning streak, Spokane has outscored the opposition 53-10, gone 16-51 (31.3%) on the power play and 48-52 (93.2%) on the penalty kill. The Chiefs have outshot the opponent 38.6-27.1. Five of the wins have come on the road and six at home.
In the 39 games prior to the streak, Spokane averaged 2.89 goals for per game. IN their 11 game streak, the Chiefs have scored 4.82 goals per game and now have an average of 3.32 goals per game.
Spokane's streak will be tested this week with three games in as many nights beginning Friday night when the Vancouver Giants visit for the first time this year. Saturday, the Chiefs will travel to Cranbrook to take on the Kootenay Ice and they will return home on Sunday to host the Kelowna Rockets.
