Guest Speaker for 4th Annual Special Olympics; Raider Education Fund Announced

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan - The Prince Albert Raiders and Special Olympics Saskatchewan, along with presenting sponsor SaskPower, are pleased to announce that 2 time Olympic Gold Medalist Team Canada goaltender, Sami Jo Small, will be the guest speaker for their 4th annual fundraising breakfast Tuesday, March 17th at 7:00 AM in the Ches Leach Lounge.

After playing minor hockey in St.Vital, Manitoba, Small went to Stanford University on a track and field scholarship to compete in discus and javelin. Due to injuries, she had to return to hockey where she played for Stanford's men's team in the PAC 10, winning MVP honours.

Her childhood dream of competing in the Olympics became a reality when she accepted a spot on the 1998 Olympic Games team traveling to Nagano, Japan. Women's hockey was on the rise and Sami Jo was a huge part of its success. She has since won five World Championships and has twice been named Championship MVP. She is a three time Olympian and has been a member of two Olympic Gold Medal Winning teams including 2006 in Torino, Italy. Sami Jo currently trains full-time in Toronto and just recently helped start the Canadian Women's Hockey League where she plays for the Mississauga Chiefs.

The Special O/Raider Education Fund Breakfast has sold out the first three years and it is expected tickets will go quickly for this years event. Corporate Tables of 8 are $175 and individual tickets are $25. Proceeds from the event are split between Special Olympics and the Raider Education Fund. Tickets are available from committee members and by calling the Raiders at 764-GAME.
