Worcester Bravehearts News Release

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Bravehearts (26-9) have begun the second half of their season in excellent fashion with back-to-back wins over the Bristol Blues (16-19), winning in a 4-3 decision tonight in Worcester. The crowd of 2,599 fans witnessed a number of home runs that accounted for six of the seven runs scored between both teams. The Bravehearts opened the scoring early with a Rafael Bournigal (Belmont/Mulberry, FL) home run on the second pitch of the game. Later in the first inning, Joe Caico (New Haven/Hopedale, MA) notched a RBI single to push the score to 2-0 early. Worcester extended their lead to 4-0 in the third inning thanks to a Zack Tower (Franklin Pierce/Auburn, MA) home run that plated two more runs. Frankie Moscatiello (int Thomas Aquinas/Rocky Point, NY) had a strong start and eventually earned the win, allowing just one hit in the first three innings. In the fourth inning, however, the Blues were able to bring two runs home on back-to-back home runs. Zach Scott (Saint Leo/Scottsdale, AZ) hit his second home run of the game in the sixth inning to cut Worcester's lead to 4-3. Moscatiello left the game in the middle of sixth inning, with 5.2 innings pitched, having allowed three runs on four hits with one walk and six strikeouts. After struggling in the first three innings, Bristol's starting pitcher, Scott Creedon (LIU Brooklyn/Braintree, MA), settled down and prevented Worcester from adding any more runs. He pitched eight innings, giving up four runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and one walk, but received the loss. The Blues' offense was not able to provide Creedon with enough run support, and the Bravehearts pulled out the 4-3 win. Pat McGowan (Holy Cross/Wellesley, MA) provided strong relief for Worcester, pitching 2.1 innings in which he never allowed a runner to reach base with no hits or walks against him. Peter Bovenzi (Richmond/Lunenburg, MA) stepped on the mound in the ninth and recorded the save.

He went one inning and struck out two batters, conceding only one walk.
