A Friendship in Every Rivalry

The Lone Star Brahmas are looking to end October on a hot streak against the Odessa Jackalopes.

The Brahmas won three of their last four games and the line of Eric Carreras, Ludvig Larsson and Oskar Andren has been a big reason for the team's recent success.

"We clicked very well," Andren explained. "I think we will continue doing that. Carreras is an American player, but he plays a European style so I would say that's a European line."

But what exactly does it mean to play a European style of hockey?

"We pass it a lot and we always try to find each other. We're very unselfish," Andren said.

That unselfish play eventually led to a 7-2 onslaught against the Amarillo Bulls in the Battle of the Cattle last Saturday.

But this weekend the Brahmas focus their attention on the Odessa Jackalopes. For Andren, the weekend is more than just another NAHL Southern Division showdown. It's also about playing against his former Swedish teammate and friend, Hampus Sjodahl.

"We've been talking a lot. We both wanted to do this adventure in the states and play to get a scholarship," Andren said.

They will get a different kind of adventure this weekend when they are forced to play against each other for the first time since leaving the Djurgarden J20 program of the SuperElit league.

Ironic that the two foreign forwards are playing Texas in hockey, where the state motto is "friendship." And based on their bond, it seems like they will live up to the state's motto on the ice this weekend.

"He's a real tough guy so I mean I wouldn't want to fight against him," Andren said.

That should not be a problem anyways, because the Swedish forwards know how to produce points.

Andren has seven assists since being acquired from the Bloomington Thunder of the United States Hockey League and Sjodahl has five goals and three assists for the Jackalopes to start the year.

Despite leaving Stockholm, Sweden for a new journey's, the two skaters are doing just fine in the Lone Star state.
