Keystone Ice Miners News Release
CONNELLSVILLE, PA - Keystone General Manager Michael Gershon announced today that the Ice Miners have acquired Forward Tommy Horn from the Rio Grande Valley Bees in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2015 NAHL Entry Draft.
"We've got some guys that have been hurt, for a little longer than we thought they were going to be out," said Gershon, about the need for a trade. "I think we need some more competition for spots."
Horn, an 18 year old from nearby Mt. Lebanon, PA, comes out of the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Program where he played beside current Ice Miner forward Jacob Coleman and netted 9 goals and 12 assists in 35 games during the 2013-14 season.
"He's a local kid so he's going to want to play in every game so that friends and family can come watch him play," said Gershon. "We just felt like it was the right move at the right time."
Horn, who can play center and wing, was selected in the 6th round of the 2014 NAHL Entry Draft by Rio Grande Valley. He has appeared in five games with the Bees this season, scoring one goal. Gershon says Horn brings a physical element to his game that the Ice Miners have been lacking in the early stages of the season.
"He's going to compete, he's going come in here and he's going to work extremely hard. He's going to be physical," he said. "We felt like we needed a little bit more jam. We like his game and we'll see how quickly he can work his way into the lineup."
The Ice Miners are coming off their first off-weekend of the season and will play a home-and-home series with the Johnstown Tomahawks on Saturday night (7:30pm) at Johnstown and Sunday afternoon (1:00pm) at the Ice Mine. Tickets are available for Sunday's game at keystoneiceminershockey.com or by calling 724-970-6228.
