San Angelo Colts News Release
Edinburg second-baseman Wilmer Pino went 3-5 with two homers, three RBI and three runs scored to cap a fantastic series, as the Roadrunners dismantled the Colts 10-5 at Foster Field on Wednesday night.
The victory gave Edinburg the series as they took three of four games from San Angelo.
For the third night in a row the Roadrunners struck first in the first on a solo-homerun by Pino (6).
They would pick up three more in the second on RBI singles by catcher Alexis Hernandez and Pino, followed by an RBI double from designated hitter Felix Molina to give Edinburg a 4-0 lead.
The Colts would push a run across in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from shortstop Butch Ballez to cut the Roadrunners' lead to three.
Ballez would pick up two more RBI in the fourth with a two-run single to make the score 4-3 Edinburg.
However, the Roadrunners fired away in the fifth by plating three runs on an RBI single by first-baseman Daryl Jones, a sac-fly from third-baseman Carlos Hereaud, and an RBI double by left-fielder Robert Matlock to push the Edinburg advantage to 7-3.
The Colts would come back with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a bloop RBI single from right-fielder Jason Landreth to pull San Angelo to within three.
But Edinburg would respond in the seventh on an RBI single by Hereaud to extend the Edinburg lead to four at 8-4.
San Angelo tried to rally in the seventh as Landreth belted his ninth homer of the year, a solo shot, to pull the Colts to within 8-5.
But as became the theme of the evening, the Roadrunners immediately responded in the eighth with solo homers by Pino (7) and right-fielder Nelson Teilon (7) to give Edinburg its biggest lead of the evening at 10-5.
Pino finished the series going 15-19 with three homers, five RBI, nine runs scored, and eight stolen bases.
For the evening, in addition to Pino's heroics, Teilon went 3-5 with a homer, two singles, two runs and a stolen base, while Hereaud went 3-4 with three singles, a run scored, two RBI, and a stolen base.
Jones chipped in by going 3-5 with two runs, a stolen base, and an RBI.
For the series, Edinburg scored 33 runs on 64 hits, while stealing 15 bases.
Ballez led the way for San Angelo by going 3-4 with a double and three RBI, while Landreth also went 3-5 with a homer, two singles and two RBI.
Second-baseman Mark Ramos and third-baseman Landon Camp had two hits apiece.
Garnering the win for Edinburg was Aaron Guerra(6-1) who went five innings, allowing four runs on nine hits, and striking out four in his first start of the season.
Ezequiel Astacio (6-7) took the loss for San Angelo after allowing seven runs on 11 hits while striking out seven over five innings of work.
The Colts will now hit the road for the final time in the regular season as they take on the Amarillo Dillas in the first game of a four-game series on Thursday with first-pitch set for 7:05.
Chandler Barnard (6-3, 3.21 ERA) will go for San Angelo against former major-leaguer Jermaine Van Buren (1-0, 4.91 ERA) of Amarillo.
The broadcast of the game can be heard on 1260 KKSA with the Kemps Pregame Show getting things underway at 6:50.
The Colts return home for the final home-stand of the regular season with the first of a four-game set against the Coastal Bend Thunder in a series that has been moved from Robstown to San Angelo, August 24-27.
