Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Monday that the team has made a pair of additions to its receiving corps. The team has acquired wide receiver Maurice Williams in a trade with the Los Angeles KISS, and also has been assigned wide receiver Bert Reed.
The Sharks acquired the 26-year-old Williams (6'2", 190) to complete future considerations from a May trade with Los Angeles. Williams is in his third season in the Arena Football League. In 2013, Williams split time with the Orlando Predators and Cleveland Gladiators, totaling 38 receptions for 526 yards and 12 touchdowns, while also racking up 467 yards and a touchdown on 28 kick returns. Williams also logged time on defense, totaling 11.5 tackles, a pass breakup and an interception.
Williams first broke into the AFL with the Gladiators in 2012. That season, he made his biggest mark on defense, snaring three interceptions while returning all three of those picks for touchdowns. Williams also returned a kickoff for a touchdown that season, grabbing one reception for 11 yards. A native of Erie, Pennsylvania, Williams played college football at the University of Pittsburgh.
The 26-year-old Reed (5'11", 180) heads to the AFL after stints with several National Football League organizations. Most recently, Reed logged time with the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad toward the end of the 2012 season.
Prior to turning pro, Reed starred at Florida State University, where he ranks fourth on the Seminoles' all-time list with 170 career receptions. For his college career, Reed totaled 2,022 yards, making him one of just 12 players to break the 2,000-yard threshold at the school. Reed's most productive season at Florida State came as a redshirt junior, when he led the Seminoles in both receptions (58) and receiving yards (614).
A native of Panama City, Florida, Reed attended Bay High School.
Following the additions of Williams and Reed, the Jacksonville roster sits at the League maximum of 24 active players.
