Arizona Still No. 1 in Latest AFL VPower Rankings
June 2, 2014 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release
CHICAGO - The undefeated Arizona Rattlers (11-0) remain atop the latest Arena Football vPower Rankings, as tabulated on AFLFieldPass.com, following a 51-42 victory over the San Jose SaberCats (7-4) in Week 12. Arizona moved within one win of the AFL record of consecutive victories to begin a season, set at 12 by San Jose in 2002. The win over their longtime rival also clinched the Rattlers' fourth consecutive West Division championship. Arizona returns to action this Friday night against the Portland Thunder (3-8) on ESPN3. Kickoff is set for 10:00 p.m. ET.
The Pittsburgh Power (8-3) ended the Cleveland Gladiators' (9-1) bid for a perfect season in Week 12, knocking off the previously unbeaten Gladiators, 48-34. The win propelled Pittsburgh up two spots to No. 2 in this week's vPower Rankings, while Cleveland fell to No. 3. The Power play host to the New Orleans VooDoo (2-8) at 5:00 p.m. ET this Saturday on ESPN3, while the Gladiators return home to face the Iowa Barnstormers (6-5) in "NET10 Wireless Arena Football Saturday" action on CBS Sports Network. Kickoff for that matchup is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
San Jose dropped one spot to No. 4 in this week's vPower Rankings following their Week 12 loss to Arizona. The Pacific Division leaders will look to get back in the win column this week as they host the LA KISS (2-8). Coming off a bye week, the KISS will look to snap a seven-game losing streak in their first trip to the SAP Center this weekend. Kickoff is set for 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
Moving up two spots to finish off the Top 5 are the Spokane Shock (6-5), who snapped their three-game skid and got back above .500 last week with a 58-48 win over the Portland Thunder. The Shock will look to make a statement this Saturday as they travel to the Sunshine State for a matchup with the Jacksonville Sharks (3-7) in "NET10 Wireless AFL on ESPN" action. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. ET on ESPNEWS.
