Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Valley Pippins announced the signing of Ryan Rosa and Nick Suniga today. Both Rosa and Suniga are freshman at Cal-Poly San Luis Obispo and began their collegiate baseball careers for the Mustangs this spring. Rosa will solidify the Pippins infield this summer and Suniga adds even more strength to a talented Yakima Valley pitching staff.

"We anticipate that both guys will play integral roles for the Pippins this summer," Manager Marcus McKimmy said. "Rosa and Suniga will fill roles that will help us win."

Rosa, a native of Granite Bay, California and a graduate of Granite Bay High School, batted an impressive .387 during his time as a Grizzly. He was a three-time All-Sierra Foothill League selection and was a major part in Granite Bay's Sierra Foothill League Championship. In his junior and senior year he led the Grizzlies to the CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs. He played summer baseball for the Pacific Union Financial Capitalists in the Bay Area. At Cal-Poly he will major sociology.

"Rosa will be one the guys we will depend on to play middle infield, "McKimmy said. "He can play multiple positions on the dirt, but his offense should really provide a spark immediately."

Suniga who is from Granada Hills, Calif. is a right-handed pitcher who graduated from Bishop Alemany High School and was a standout two-way player for the Warriors. As a senior he hit .411 and posted a 4-3 record with a 2.08 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings. He earned first-team All-Mission League honors as a senior and first-team All-Delphic League accolades as both a freshman and sophomore. The Warriors were 19-11 overall in 2013 and qualified for the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 playoffs. Suniga excelled in classroom as well landing on the honor roll all four years. Like his teammate Ryan Rosa he will also major in sociology.

"Suniga has already shown his stuff for Cal Poly this year," McKimmy, "In his first appearance this spring he has already pitched 2 scoreless innings for the Mustangs without allowing a baserunner."
