Name the Team Contest Winner Announced

YAKIMA, Wash.-The Yakima Valley Pippins have announced the winner of the "Name the Team" contest. Over 400 unique entries were submitted into the contest and one was chosen at random. The winner, Laura Nunez, of Moxee is mother of two and husband, Ty, graduated from East Valley High School in Moxee.

"We let the fans pick the name," Director of Operations Noel Zanchelli said, "Mrs. Nunez was one of many fans who entered a name into the drawing, and that participation helped us find a brand that achieved what we set out to do - develop a brand that was unique to the Valley. We couldn't be happier with what the fans selected."

Laura and her family will receive season tickets for the 2014 season as well as her own personalized jersey and an opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a Pippins game. Nunez and her husband relocated to the Yakima Valley in 2011 from Southern California to raise their family. She was part of the on-field promotions team for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes a Single-A affiliate of Los Angeles Dodgers from 1999 to 2001. They have two daughters Ella, who is 4, and Halle, who is 2 1/2.

"I adore Yakima," Nunez said, "All the activities, the gorgeous weather, fruits, and amazing vineyards add character to the Yakima Valley. The coolest part is there is even more potential for this town and having the Pippins just adds to the culture we are trying to cultivate."

Laura, a self-proclaimed stay-at-home mom stays busy volunteering for various community groups in the Yakima Valley .She is involved with the Junior League of Yakima as well as the Ms. Yakima pageant. Her husband works for Nexternal Solutions in e-commerce and a graduate of Central Washington University. She is the owner-operator of The Glow Girl, a custom airbrush spray tanning business.

"Building a successful franchise begins with the fans," said Pacific Baseball Ventures COO Zachary Fraser. "Involving them from the beginning was a priority of the franchise. We are working to build a community-centered organization that serves the entire Yakima Valley."

The Yakima Valley Pippins will begin their quest for a WCL Championship at Yakima County Stadium on June 6th, 2014 at 7:05 P.M. against East Division rival and Wenatchee AppleSox. Tickets are now on sale for the 2014 season, including full-season and partial-season packages, as well as select team merchandise.
