Pee Wee Shoots Down the B-52's

December 2, 2013 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Chicago Mustangs News Release

It was just about as intense as it gets. From the opening whistle it was clear that the Wichita B-52's were not going to take the first meeting against the Chicago Mustangs lightly. Ultimately, the Mustangs would be victorious and remain undefeated on the season. However, this was not an easy victory at all for the home team.

The game started with the Mustangs usual power possessive play, with several early attacks being foiled by B-52's keeper Nic Martinez. But it was not long before the Mustangs were able to get one past him. In the 4th minute of the match, Luis "Pee Wee" Ortega sent an amazing cross right past Wichita's net to connect with Victor Sanchez for the early goal. And it was not long before the away team answered back with a goal of-their-own. Wichita forward Heviel Cordoves, who spent most of the first half pushing the attack for the B-52's was successful at driving in his team's first goal on a streaking breakaway.

The chess match continued, as it seemed going into the second quarter neither team had adapted to the others defensive play. Finally, with a little under eight minutes left in the half, Sanchez was able to find the back of the net once more with the assistance of a perfectly placed pass by Miguel Vaca. But again despite the fantastic efforts of Mustangs goalie Jesus Flores, the B-52's were able to not only tie the match back up, but also take the lead going into halftime.

For the first time all year, the Mustangs went to the locker room for halftime without the lead. When the teams took the field again for the second half, the Mustangs got right down to business. "Pee Wee" got to work putting in consecutive goals in the third quarter, with Adrian Ortiz also dumping one in, to bring the Mustangs back on top 5-3. From that point on, the Mustangs went on doing what they do best, dominating the opposition. "Pee Wee's" four goal and one assist performance capped off a 9-5 victory for the home team in front of a passionate crowd at the Odeum in Villa Park.

The Mustangs plan to continue their undefeated campaign this Weekend when they take on 2012-13 US Arena Open Cup Champions the Detroit Waza Flo at Grand Sports Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL. Kick off is scheduled for 4:05 PM, tickets can be purchased by visiting http://chicagomustangspro.ticketleap.com/game4-2013-14/t/prgame4/.
