Richmond Kickers News Release
RICHMOND, VA - (Wednesday, January 5, 2011) - The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the return of forward Edson Elcock for the 2011 season, pending USSF approval.
"We are ecstatic that Edson has agreed to return," comments Leigh Cowlishaw, Head Coach and Director of Soccer. "He has been one of our most consistent performers and has now developed into one of the most lethal attacking players in our league."
Elcock returns for his second full season with the Kickers after finishing second on the team in scoring with five goals and one assist for 11 points in 2010. He notched a sixth goal in the Kickers heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Charleston in the 2010 USL-2 Championship match. Elcock earned a start in each of his 24 appearances overall last season. Joining the roster in late July 2009, the Old Dominion University graduate quickly made his way into the starting lineup, making an immediate impact with the team and scoring the equalizer in the Kickers 2009 USL-2 Championship match to lead the team to their second title in four season.
The native of Brooklyn, New York boasted an impressive goal scoring record throughout his collegiate career, and became just the fourth player in Old Dominion University history to be selected first team All-American. After being named Freshman of the Year in the SAC with Wingate University, Elcock moved to ODU and helped the Monarchs reach the NCAA tournament in each of his three seasons with them. In 2006, the senior scored 11 goals and notched six assists, earning him numerous honors including first team NSCAA All-Region.
